Your body cannot expand when it feels unsafe.

In this extended guided practice, I walk you through a powerful nervous system reset designed to signal safety to the body, calm stress responses, and bring you back into grounded presence.

This is not mindset work.
This is physiological recalibration.

Inside this episode, we explore:

  • How to move from fight-or-flight into parasympathetic regulation
  • Breath patterns that communicate safety to the brain
  • Body-based awareness to release stored tension
  • Simple anchoring techniques to create internal stability
  • How to build long-term resilience through repetition

If this practice supported you, share it with someone who needs it.

Grounding Into Presence

SPEAKER_00

Welcome back to Aligned and Alive. Today I'm going to guide you through a practice that will bring you into presence while gently calming your nervous system. There's no music, just the sound of my voice guiding you back into your body. So whether you are on a walk or lying down somewhere quiet, this is your moment to slow the pace. So for the next several minutes, we're not going to try to fix anything. We're simply going to allow your body to remember what steady, calm feels like. So at this time, if you are somewhere safe to close your eyes, gently allow them to soften and close. Just become present and quiet. And allow all the thoughts to drift away. And if you are sitting, let your feet rest flat on the floor. If you are lying down, let your body feel fully supported and allow your hands to rest somewhere easy and natural. And before we do anything else, simply notice. Notice your breath, the weight of your body, and the pace you arrived here with. No judgment, just awareness.

Breath As A Safety Signal

And begin by taking a slow breath in through your nose. And exhale through your mouth. Again, a slow inhale through your nose. And a long exhale through your mouth. And one more time, inhaling slowly and exhaling completely. You do not need to regulate your nervous system by forcing yourself to calm down. You regulate it by signaling safety. And safety begins with awareness and breath. So we're going to begin to breathe in through your nose for a count of four, one, two, three, four, and exhale slowly through your mouth for a count of six. One, two, three, four, five, six. Again, inhaling for four, one, two, three, four, and exhaling for six, one, two, three, four, five, six. And just allow yourself to continue this pattern at your own pace. Longer exhales will tell your nervous system that it is safe to soften, that it is safe to come out of fight or flight. That it is safe to sink into this present moment. And if your mind wanders, that's okay. If any thoughts come, just let them come and go.

And now bring your awareness to your jaw. Notice if you're clenching or if it's tightened. Just allow your tongue to drop from the roof of your mouth and allow your teeth to separate ever so slightly. Relax the space between your eyebrows. Soften your forehead. Allow your shoulders to drop away from your ears. Feel the weight of your arms. And now bring your awareness to your chest. Notice if it feels tight, open, heavy, or neutral. There is no wrong sensation. Just notice. Now gently place one hand over your heart. And if it feels comfortable, one hand over your lower belly. And simply connect with the rise and fall. This is your body connecting deeper, working for you, not against you. If you have been experiencing any

stress, pressure, or too much noise lately, breathe into this moment. Flow with the rise and fall of your breath and body. You are teaching it that this moment is safe. Now imagine a dial in front of you. This dial represents your level of activation. Zero is completely calm, and ten is highly activated. And without judgment, notice where you are at. Maybe you are at a six. Maybe it's an eight, or maybe it's a four. Just observe. Now imagine gently turning the dial down by one point. You do not need to drop to zero, just one point lower. And as you imagine that dial lowering, lengthen your next exhale even

more. Take a slow inhale in through your nose and a long, steady exhale through your mouth. Now bring your awareness to your environment. Even with your eyes closed, notice the room around you, the temperature of the air on your skin, any sounds in the distance, the support beneath your body. And allow your nervous system to register this truth. Right now, in this moment, I am safe. Right now, in this moment, I am safe. And one more time. Right now, in this moment, I am safe. Now bring your awareness to the base of your spine.

Registering Safety In Your Environment

SPEAKER_00

Imagine roots extending downward from your body down to the floor into the earth beneath you. Deep, steady and strong. Feel yourself completely anchored. Regulation brings you downward into your body, into the present, into stability. Feel the weight of gravity supporting you. Now think of something mildly stressful. Just something small. And notice how your body responds to that thought. Do your shoulders tighten? Does

your breath shorten? Does your stomach contract? Just notice. And now breathe slowly again. Inhaling for a count of four, one, two, three, four, and exhaling for a count of six, one, two, three, four, five, six. And as you breathe, imagine responding to that stress from this regulated state. Feel yourself steady again, clear, grounded. And notice how different that feels. This is the power of regulation. It does not remove life's challenges. It changes how you meet them. Now shift your attention to your heart again. And begin to recall a moment when you felt genuinely safe. It could be a place, a person, a memory, a season of your life. Picture it clearly right now. Notice the colors, the sensations, and how your body feels in that memory.

Meeting Mild Stress From Calm

SPEAKER_00

Your nervous system does not fully distinguish between imagined safety and remembered safety. So as you recall this moment, allow your body to feel it as real. And stay here for a few breaths. A slow inhale and a long exhale. And if it feels right, gently smile. Because even a slight smile signals safety to the brain. Let your body soften into this feeling. This is coherence. This is regulation. Now imagine stepping into the version of you that moves through life from this state more often. Not perfectly, but more consistently. See how you speak, how you decide, and how you respond. Notice the clarity in your posture and the calm in your

breath. This version of you is not stress-free. This version of you is regulated. And that is different. It allows you to move through life with greater peace, regardless what is happening around you. Now gently bring your awareness back to your physical body. Feel your feet, your hands, the air on your skin. And take one last deep inhale in. And a long slow exhale out. And begin to wiggle your fingers and toes. And roll your shoulders gently forward and backward. And when you are ready, slowly open your eyes and take in this moment before moving forward. Notice what feels different, even if it's just subtle. Feel free to revisit this practice anytime you feel the need to pop back in

the present moment and remind your body that calm is accessible. You can return to this practice at any time. Before a difficult conversation, a decision, before you drift off to sleep, whenever you want. Your breath is always available. Your body is always available. And safety can be practiced and embodied. Much love. And at this time, if you would like to receive prayer, please stay here for a moment. And if this is where we depart, may your day be grounded and guided. Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of breath, for the wisdom you built into our bodies, for the peace that is not something we chase, but something you make available in every moment. Quiet what is restless within us. Soften what has been bracing, and release what we were never meant to carry. Let your peace settle into our thoughts, into our breath, and into our homes. May we move through this day steady, clear, and anchored in your calm presence. In Jesus' name. Amen.
