I trade the kitchen for the sidewalk — mic in hand, Halo by my side — for another impromptu, unscripted episode, inspired by yesterday's spontaneous cooking-episode energy. I take you on a real-time walk through one simple but powerful idea: you learn a lot about someone by what they prioritize.

Key Takeaways

  • What you prioritize reveals who you are — your priorities are a mirror, not just a to-do list
  • Growth often requires subtraction before addition — ask what needs to slide down the list, not just what to add
  • You don't need a big moment to shift your trajectory — a single new day is enough
  • Reframing hard circumstances (the "lemons") is a choice available to you right now

Morning Walk And A Mic

SPEAKER_00

So inspired by yesterday's episode of me cooking in the kitchen and just holding my mic and doing an impromptu, I thought I would take you on my walk. It is 640 in the morning, and I'm finally getting Halo out so she can stretch her legs. And I'm gonna go meet a girlfriend and finish my walk.

Recording Without Overthinking

SPEAKER_00

And I thought, this is actually I know people talk about it, but it is the easiest way to get the podcast episodes in, as opposed to having scheduling them out, sitting down at my desk behind my podcast mic, just grab the handheld and go. And it made me think of my friend Jason Smith. Hi, Jason. Yeah, I was thinking about you, like when you were doing your walks, and you know, come take a walk with me, and and you'd riff. And so it made me think about that again. And what's on my mind this morning more than anything, I always think about obviously every day is gratitude and sinking into my own time with my loved ones, with my time with God, prayer, Halo, even though she's not keeping up right now.

Priorities That Reveal Your Life

SPEAKER_00

God, come on, baby. Um, and it made me think of just in general, like what is your practice? I made a post yesterday in my Instagram story, and it just says you really know a lot about a person by what they prioritize. And I sat with that more and more because it's so true. I think of my closest in my inner circle, and we all, every single one of us, prioritize prayer, gratitude, health, our family. Like our families are so important for us, and they're a non-negotiable, they actually take precedence over a lot of other things. We prioritize privacy. I think that's a big one. And for a long time it's something I didn't prioritize. And for me, it's such a luxury right now to have privacy, which equals peace. And I think about that. Like, what are you prioritizing? What's on the top of your list? Is it prayer? Is it giving thanks even if things aren't going right? Thanks for another day of life. Like just right now, walking, I'm in complete and utter gratitude with every fiber of my being that I'm able to see, smell, taste, walk. My body can move. I'm healthy. Like those are huge for me, and I don't take it for granted. Because I've had several knee surgeries over the past 20 plus years from a former uh injury from gymnastics, and I know what it's like to be held up when you can't walk. It sucks. It's probably one of the worst things, at least for someone who loves to be active and move. And I think about that. I don't take it for granted that I'm able to get up and walk today. And I just something to sit with this morning. It's Sunday for those of you who are in prayer right now or time with God, if you're a believer, journaling, maybe you're getting ready for church, whatever your thing is, whatever your Sunday morning routine is, what do you prioritize? It says a lot about where you're at in your life. Or are you a workaholic and you're putting work before family, work before your health? I get it. I've been there, I grind. I used to grind all the time, seven days a week, and I still work seven days a week, but in a very different context. It's not like it was years ago when it was grinding, grinding, grinding. And you can hear all the walkers in the back. This is like the time of the morning we're on the bike path. Everybody's walking their dogs. Um, so yeah, what what are you prioritize? And maybe it's time to reconsider your priorities, and that's a direct reflection of where you're at in your life right now.

Health Habits That Actually Support You

SPEAKER_00

For instance, are you really taking initiative and taking care of your health? Are you eating healthy, supportive foods that nourish your body? And I get it, there's a lot out there that even when you buy organic, I mean, gosh, look what's going on right now with another thing that's spreading across the country and world. And it's just are you doing the best you can, is what I'm getting at. For me, I try to take in whole foods on a daily basis. I've been fasting for years. Fasting works really well for your system for most people. Um, you know, so like just considering those things. Are they priorities in your life? And what maybe needs to slip down, slide down the list towards the bottom and not be a priority anymore.

Clean Up Complaints And Take Ownership

SPEAKER_00

Reconsidering habits, reconsidering your environment, your circle, who you talk to, how do you talk to other people? And maybe there's areas of your life that you need to clean up so you can experience more gratitude. Are you complaining all the time? I say this all the time, you guys. I know you may not want to hear it. It's truth, though. This is radical acceptance of where you're at in your life, taking full ownership. You may have been the problem, and also you're the solution. That's that's the silver lining, that's the the plus side, right? You can change and shift the trajectory of your life simply by what you make a priority. And so this is just a quick walk and talk. Halo's not even keeping up here. Gosh, I she's only seven years old. She walks like she's hundred and something. And yeah, so I just think about that. For me, I I reconsider where I delegate my energy and time on a daily basis. This never happens. We never this early in the morning have sirens. Hope everything is okay. It always hurts my heart when I think about it. Is it just a frivolous call, or is someone actually really going through it? Sending prayers and love. Um so yeah, where are you delegating your energy, your time?

Time Is The Most Sacred Asset

SPEAKER_00

Those are valuable. You never get that back. Money, you can always make more money. You lose money, yeah, it sucks, it stings. And also you can make more. Time? I believe it's one of the most valuable assets anyone has. My time is so sacred, and yours should be too. Value someone's time. Value it all, value your own. So today, consider it. Consider what are your priorities and what needs to fall off the list that isn't serving you, and what needs to become

Begin Again And Choose Connection

SPEAKER_00

a priority. Today's a new day. It's a new day. Guess what? You can do whatever you want. Begin anew. It's all good. Don't hold yourself hostage to what didn't work out or what someone said or fill in the blank, right? Today is a new day. Go out there and do something that's really worth squeezing the most out of life. Maybe it's just time with yourself and time with God on a nice long walk if you're able to do so. Or maybe it's just a nice long meditation. If you're hunkered down on the couch and you can't move right now, just spending some time in prayer and giving thanks. Giving thanks for another day of life, another chance to do what you're supposed to be doing here on earth, your purpose. All the things. I'm a little distracted because someone's sniffing a lot here. These walks and talks are hard. Okay, so that's it for today. I'm gonna go meet my girlfriend here in a couple minutes when I drop Halo off and have some more time. See, another priority for me is just engaging in deep conversation with incredible human beings. We're here to connect with one another. We're here to grow and evolve and as I mentioned, squeeze the most out of life. So go make lemonade today with your lemons. Much love.
